"The longer I live the more beautiful life becomes" Frank Lloyd Wright (1869-1959)
Most of us look forward to taking it easier and enjoying our retirement years. We are either exploring the many different avenues available, or have already secured our financial security.
Perhaps, we felt our homes were our best investment, so we have considerable equity and wonder if a Reverse Mortgage is something we want to consider, or if it would be better to sell our home and work with an agent that understands senior’s needs.
Maybe we have a Life Insurance Policy and would like to receive money from it now, or we want to purchase Long Term Care Insurance or an annuity that we can draw upon.
We might be considering a move to senior housing for Mom and Dad or ourselves and we need some money short term before their or our house sells, so we need information on Assisted Living Loans.

Housing for Seniors

"Home is where the heart is". (Author unknown)
We want to feel secure and be safe, while having the freedom to do what we want, when we want to do it. As we grow older, our safety and security become of greater concern, so living with others of like age and similar interests helps us maintain happiness and quality of life. There are many options to fit our needs.
Senior housing includes Retirement or Independent Living, CCRC’s (Continuing Care Retirement Communities), Assisted Living, Residential Care/Board and Care Homes, Specialized Communities for Alzheimer's and dementia, and Skilled Nursing Facilities.

"Home is the one place in all this world where hearts are sure of each other. It is the place of confidence." Frederick W. Robertson (1816-1853)
The familiar is comfortable and easy for us. We like to be surrounded by the many memories we have created in our life.
Sometimes we need a little extra help with housekeeping and chores or with medications and transportation.
Home Health Agencies provide professional health help, primarily engaged in skilled nursing and other therapeutic services. Home Care Agencies provide non-medical assistance, providing help with the activities of daily living — bathing, medication reminders, dressing, grooming, and other personal needs. They can also provide housekeeping, cooking, and chore related services. Companion or chore services don’t provide hands-on care, but rather, perform household duties, run errands, cook, or serve as a companion to an older adult.

"Grow old with me! The best is yet to be." Robert Browning (1812-1889)
As we begin to slow down a bit, we realize we need a little help with senior friendly housing, meals, and activities that meet our needs physically, mentally, and spiritually.
How do we decide when to move, where to move, and what is the best fit for our personal needs? We need to let others do the research, so we can save our time and energy for the things we like to do.
With so many options, it's sometimes difficult to know exactly what you want and/or need, so rely on the placement and referral professionals that know your community, what’s available, who is state licensed and what type of housing and care can they provide.

"Each is given a bag of tools, a shapeless mass, a book of rules; And each must make, ere life is flown---a stumbling block or a stepping stone." R. L. Sharpe (1870’s - 1950’s)
It's up to us to utilize what is available, so we can turn those stumbling blocks into stepping stones. We now have so many disciplines that can help us organize our lives, keep us healthy, keep our affairs in order, and live life to the fullest.
There are Real Estate Agents that cater to seniors' needs, experts that can get us organize and become clutter free, and relocation specialists that can help us pack and move.
Our health and wellness needs can be met in many ways, from the traditional medical physicians to the eastern medicine practitioners, and anywhere in between. We decide the methods we want to use. Treatment and diagnostic techniques can include pain management, gerontologists, naturopaths, marijuana clinics, weight loss clinics, ultrasound screenings, hearing and testing centers, orthotics specialists, massage therapists, ophthalmologists, acupuncturists, orthopedic surgeons, yoga and T'ai Chi teachers, and therapists, just to name a few.
Piece of mind comes from having our legal affairs in order and knowing that our last wishes will be honored. Eldercare Attorneys can handle wills, asset preservation, estate planning, Medi-Cal eligibility, trust administration, power of attorney, conservatorships, probate, inheritance, and any other area related to senior law. Funeral Planners assist with arrangements for services, cremations, and burials.

"No matter how old you are, there's always something good to look forward to." Lynn Johnston (1947 - ), For Better or For Worse, 01-04-04.
We are living in the age of almost daily technological changes. There are webcams to see our loved ones on our computers. Blackberries aren’t only to eat, but to receive calls. Now our medical records can be with us all of the time, stored on a device no larger than our thumb, and necklaces can call the fire department if we fall., Remodel specialists can create ramps, install grab bars, construct roll-in showers, or "cut out" our bathtubs to allow us to step in more easily.
We can travel anywhere with electric scooters and folding, lightweight wheelchairs. Vans can now be converted to accommodate special needs, and there are travel groups for seniors.
